After quite a while resting on my more or less laurels (past listings) it's time to get a move on and put up some more listings. My goal is five books every day from now on. This should be achievable, but not according to my past performance.

These books get listed in three places: on Amazon, Biblio, and Half. Books without ISBNs (older books) generally will not be listed on half. My prices might vary between these three places. Amazon and Half tell me competing prices, so I peg mine on them. Thus, if the lowest price for Deadly Percheron is $98 on Amazon, I might peg mine at $95. If it weren't my only copy maybe I'd be more reasonable. In fact, I think my Biblio listing is more reasonable.

Going forward (and possibly backward), links to titles of books will send you to the main Amazon listing. My listing will be somewhere amidst the other maybe 237 listings. This is where my photo of the book can be seen, which will probably be a better one than the one Amazon features. Half doesn't let me attach my own photo—at least I don't think it does. Photos are also at biblio. Lots of older listings still don't have photos. Nor updated prices.

I've been lousy at selling direct via email. Sorry about that, if you've tried me. Listing through the major portals keeps me honest—also prompt and reliable.

---Word from Night Shade:
Hey all,

Got a bunch of news for you today, so let us begin!

We've just announced some of our fall titles. Among others, we have:

Zima Blue and Other Stories. A collection by Alastair Reynolds, with an introduction by Paul McCauley. Includes an original story. The limited edition will be signed by Reynolds, with a bonus story, "Digital to Analogue".

Trial of Flowers, a fantasy novel from Jay Lake. Firmly in the vein of Perdido Street Station, The Etched City, and City of Saints and Madmen.

We're also doing a reprint of Walter Jon Williams' wonderful novel, Hardwired. Williams does his cyberpunk riff on Zelazny's Damnation Alley.

Originally published in 1990, Sung in Blood is an impossible (and impossbily expensive) to find novel from Glen Cook. A high fantasy version of Fu Manchu meets Doc Savage. Limited edition details to follow.

We're also rereleasing Kage Baker's excellent collection, Mother Aegypt, in trade paperback this October.

There's a couple other projects pending, and we'll be announcing those shortly.

In other news, we've had a few new releases lately. We've shipped out all the preorders on The Complete Hammer's Slammers vol. 1 a few weeks back, and the limited is almost sold out.

En route from the printer are the trade paperbacks of Charles Saunders' African heroic fantasy novel, Imaro, as well as M. John Harrison's seminal weird novel, The Course of the Heart. We should have them in-hand shortly, and we'll have preorders sent out shortly.

A quick status on other titles:

Maul, by Tricia Sullivan and Snake Moon, by Ray Manzarek are at the printer now. Lurker in the Lobby, our forthcoming guide to Lovecraftian cinema, should be at the printer this week.

We're making very good progress on the first Clark Ashton Smith volume, and will be posting the table of contents shortly.

Perdido Street Station is still pending the receipt of China's artwork, but we're hoping to have it soon.

That's about it for now, so until next month,

Jason Williams
Night Shade Books
---Listed most of the books with ISBNs picked up at book sale on Sunday on half.com. It wasn’t my intention to put them right up for sale, but it is such an easy process I thought I might just go ahead. Some of them I picked up because they seemed like good deals, but mostly it was because they were books I would like to read myself. I will honor these prices for direct sales as well as through half. Their covershots will be showing up in the 3-26 and 3-27-06 folders on Covershots 7 CD-R (or DVD-R “gigalog”).

Wakefield, H.R.THEY RETURN AT EVENING: A Collection of Ghost Stories, Ash-Tree, 2nd('05). (reprint of 1995 edition), new in dj 47.50
---Sent out blogmail today. The formatting when copied to email loses the block quoting, font sizing and italicizing, not to mention the linking, that it gets it on the blog per sé. The preferred version would have to be the blog itself over the blogmail, but I doubt everybody on the blogmail list would visit the blog so regularly.

03/26/06 SUN:
---Adjusted settings for biblio and half.com listings to “returned from vacation”. We were in California last week visiting our son Neil in San Francisco and my parents in Carmel. It was great to see them and some of the sights in California. The trip went smoothly, but now I need to re-orient myself to the bit of build-up of things to do--both what has come up while away and the too-many things I didn’t get done before leaving.

---Tried not to have too many book shipments coming while away, but a few things here anyway: large boxes from Ash-Tree, NESFA Press, and a 35-pounder with more used books to sell on consignment. As I get these catalogued, I will post them here, of course.

---As if not up against it enough already, I went to a large book sale today and picked up some 111 more used books to add to inventory. Not too many choice items, maybe because this was the next-to-last day of sale that started, I think, last Thursday.

Solicitation for Masques V from Gauntlet Press

Gauntlet is pleased to offer the final volume of the Masques series to be edited by the late-Jerry Williamson, MASQUES V. Before he fell ill, Jerry assembled 90% of the stories in this 465-page anthology. When he was unable to continue with the project co-editor Gary Braunbeck contacted a number of authors who were either contemporaries of Jerry or those he had mentored. As a result we were able to add stories by Ray Bradbury, Richard Matheson, Jack Ketchum, Poppy Z. Brite and Ray Garton to the anthology. Clive Barker also agreed to provide the cover art (this can be found on the Gauntlet Press website @ www.gauntletpress.com). The complete Table of Contents is as follows:

New Upcoming Horror from SAROB PRESS.

As you may know, I took a well deserved (at least I think so) break after we
published SOLAR PONS: THE FINAL CASES and GHOSTS AND FAMILY LEGENDS but I am
now ready to announce our first two books for 2006.

DAMAGE by LEE THOMAS
A new unrelenting adult horror novel by the Bram Stoker Award winning author
of STAINED.
“In the suburban community of Pierce Valley the laws of nature are breaking
down. The skies above the city are black with storm. Emotions are bent and
shattered. A man suffers blackouts, waking to find bizarre symbols he’s
constructed during his sleep. A woman commits acts of atrocity at the
behest of an unlikely messenger. A mother soothes her daughter, a child
that dies years ago. Neither the living nor the dead can escape this place.
Something dark is emerging from Pierce Valley … And it’s bringing DAMAGE.”
Dust Jacket Wrap Art by Paul Lowe.

Available for Hallowe’en 2006 in two hardcover states:
Limited Edition – bound in wibalin with sewn signatures, coloured endpapers
and head/tailbands @ UK £27-50 / USA $50
Deluxe Edition – adds full cloth/buckram binding, marbled endpapers,
bound-in bookmark, bound-in signature page (signed by the author and cover
artist) and is presented in a hand made slipcase @ UK £65 / USA $115
Both editions are printed on a fine quality bookwove and come with full
colour wrap art laminated dust jacket.

THE NIGHTMARE FRONTIER by STEPHEN MARK RAINEY
A new adult horror novel by the author of BALAK and THE LEBO COVEN.
“The town of Silver Ridge, West Virginia, has disappeared from the face of
the earth. A vast chasm prevents any living soul from crossing into the
community. From above, only an impenetrable layer of mist marks the spot
where the town once existed. And inside Silver Ridge, the nightmare is just
beginning. Confined by this unimaginable barrier, the townspeople find
themselves confronted by the denizens of a distant dimension; horrifying
creatures intent on transforming the valley town into an outpost hospitable
to their existence. To these extra-dimensional travellers, human beings are
nothing more than pests to be exterminated. Russell Copeland and Diana
Harrington are determined to resist the invaders … but as they face death to
restore Silver Ridge to its rightful place on earth, they find that their
true enemy might not be the incomprehensible invaders, but an insidious evil
whose origin is closer to home than they can imagine.”
Dust Jacket Wrap Art by Chad Savage.

03/15/06 WED:
---Word from Golden Gryphon:
Greetings from the Gryphon:

THE EMPIRE OF ICE CREAM, by Jeffrey Ford, is now available!

In 2002, author Jeffrey Ford published his first short fiction collection, The
Fantasy Writer’s Assistant and Other Stories, to wide, critical acclaim. The
collection received a starred review in Publishers Weekly, and was later selected for
PW’s “Best Science Fiction and Fantasy of 2002” List. The Fantasy Writer’s
Assistant then went on to win the World Fantasy Award for Best Single-Author
Collection of the Year.
Now Golden Gryphon Press releases Ford’s second, long-awaited short
fiction collection, The Empire of Ice Cream. In the title story, winner of the
prestigious Nebula Award (and a finalist for the Hugo Award, the World Fantasy
Award, and the Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award), a young musician perceives
another sensory world of sights and sounds and smells while consuming cup after
cup of coffee.
A faerie Twilmish chronicles his brief yet adventurous life in a sand castle,
during those few hours between the outgoing and incoming tide, in “The Annals of
Eelin-Ok.” Through a complex formula we can calculate “The Weight of Words,”
and thus determine their subliminal, and surreptitious, affect on the reader. In “A
Night in the Tropics,” we learn of a possibly demonic chess set, originally crafted in
1533 by Italian goldsmith Dario Foresso, in a New Jersey bar called The Tropics.
And in “Boatman’s Holiday,” Charon, the boatman of Hell, takes a hiatus from his
horrific day job to embark on a rather memorable vacation.
Also included is a new, previously unpublished novella (nearly 40,000
words), entitled “Botch Town,” in which a young Long Island boy comes of age in a
town peopled by family and neighbors, each trying to live a life, amidst both a real
and a perceived menace. Jeffrey Ford can take the mundane, the everyday, and,
with the skill of an adept, mold these into brilliantly realized visions, wondrous yet
elusive.

Tell your librarian that this goes in the Weird, Strange, and Great section. Feel free
to mention that this book received a starred Publishers Weekly review (which it did).

Book Description
The Unnameable:
Four Tales by H. P. Lovecraft, 1890 - 1937
Legendary Master of the Macabre
Read by David Cade

Synopsis
1. The Book. Fearful, confused, and deprived now of family and memories of the past, the narrator tells of his unfortunate discovery of an ancient worm-riddled book and an abhorrent formula therein . . . by which he becomes compelled to look upon the hideous core of the unknown cosmos. 2. The Music of Erich Zann. In Paris an impoverished music student finds lodgings amidst the peculiar tottering houses of the Rue d'Auseil . . . but now that street appears never to have existed! Gone too is the frantically written cry for help of its eccentric mute, Erich Zann. All is lost in a hair-raising night of delirious and demoniac pandemonium. 3. The Cats of Ulthar. Evenings resound with the screeching of cats, dying horrendously - but their owners can only grieve. No one dares challenge the old couple responsible. But then a caravan of exotic wandering folk enters the town . . . and the ancient immortal power of the cat is administered. 4. The Unnameable. Scholarly teacher Joel Manton believes all things mystical and supernatural are easily dismissed by science, logic, and reason. Little does he know that, once this night is over, he himself will declare that indeed there exist upon earth horrors that will remain for all time completely and frighteningly unnameable. Features four literary horror stories by H P Lovecraft, read by David Cade, with music composed by Roberto Barzini.

From the Inside Flap
"Howard Phillips Lovecraft is now acknowledged as the master of the literary tale of terror. His many fantastic and macabre stories have won a fiercely devout following across the globe and are today available in the collections of a number of different international publishing houses. Originally, however, they appeared only in simple American horror magazines. Lovecraft's excellence is in his subtle and suggestive generation of situations of alarming atmosphere which erupt into encounters with phenomena not only terrifying but possessing a remarkable degree of verisimilitude. Usually delivering his stories by way of interlocutors of powerful intellect, such as scientists or scholars, Lovecraft succeeded in elevating the frightening world of the macabre to a level of poetic beauty and profundity which few other writers in his particular fictional genre have been able to equal."
